Tampa Bay Rays

One of the well known Major League Baseball franchises, the Tampa Bay Rays are based in St. Petersburg. They form a part of the Eastern Division of MLB’s American League. Unlike some of the other teams, the Tampa Rays came into existence in the year 1998. In the year 2008, the team won its first division title and entered the playoffs for the first time in their history.

The team was initially known as Tampa Bay Devil Rays, but in November 2007, the named was changed to Tampa Bay Rays. Along with this, the major colors of the teams were also changed from black, green and blue to navy blue, Columbia Blue and gold.

Performance of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008

The season in 2008 proved to be very productive for the Tampa Bay Rays. They started with 18 wins straightaway; it was undoubtedly a club record. They also secured the highest winning percentage in the Grapefruit League. On the same year in August, they had their maiden winning season by registering their 82nd match win. It came against the Baltimore Orioles. They won it by a margin of 14/3. On the 6th of October the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Chicago White Sox in the 4th game of the American League Division Series (ALDS) thus capturing their first victory in the playoff series.
