Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the most important teams that play professional baseball under the Eastern Division of the National League. The latter is affiliated to the Major League Baseball. Philadelphia Phillies is based in Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.

History of the Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies have won two World Series titles to their credit by defeating ‘Kansas City’ in 1980 and ‘Tampa Bay’ in 2008. They have also won 7 National League pennants. Out of these 7, the first one was won in the year 1915. Dating back to history, the team was found in Philadelphia in the year 1883. They have played in numerous stadiums including the ‘Recreation Park’, ‘Baker Bowl’, ‘Shibe Park’ (later renamed as ‘Connie Mack Stadium’), ‘Veterans Stadium and the ‘Citizens Bank Park’.

In the year 1943, William B. Cox bought the franchise Philadelphia Phillies. It proved to be rewarding because the team performed well. The players were paid well and this infused a new spirit of enthusiasm and motivation in the players. Besides, the Philadelphia Phillies also acquired a bunch of young players like Richie Ashburn and Robin Roberts. They were popularly known as ‘Whiz Kids’. During the later half of the 1950s, the performance of the team dipped once again. On rare occasions did the team perform well, but those moments of celebration were short lived.

They bounced back claiming the World Series title in 2008. In the same year, they also won the second division title.
