Oakland Athletics

 
The Oakland Athletics is one of the well known Major League Baseball teams located in Oakland, California. The team is nicknamed as ‘A’. They are also known as the ‘White Elephants’ or simply ‘the Elephants’. It is one of the eight charter teams of the American League.
 
History of the Oakland Athletics
 
The team practically came into existence in the year 1901. During the period 1901 to 1954, they were known as the Oakland A’s. From 1955 to 1967, they were called ‘Kansas City Athletics’ and by the name of ‘Oakland Athletics’ during 1968 to 1969. They were known as ‘Oakland A’s’ from the period 1970 to 1980. Finally, the team took up its present name that is ‘Oakland Athletics’ from the year 1981.
