New York Mets

The New York Mets are one of the well known professional baseball teams based in New York. They form an important constituent of the East Division of MLB’s National League. They use a combination of blue, black, orange and white colors in their uniform. Their patent song is ‘Meet the Mets’ which was penned down by Bill Katz and Ruth Roberts in the year 1961.

History of the New York Mets

The New York Mets have won 2 World Series titles, one in the year 1969 and the other in 1986. Apart from this, they have also won four National League pennants in 1969, 1973, 1986 and 2000. Besides, they have also won 5 National League East titles in 1969, 1973, 1986, 1988 and 2006. What more? The New York Mets have also qualified for the postseason as the Wild card team for the National League in 1999 and 2000. It is interesting to note that they have also appeared for as many as 4 times in the World Series Championship.

The period between 1962 and 1966 was replete with a number of losses for the New York Mets. Their performance dipped badly and the players had a very low morale. In the year 1963, the team acquired Carlton Willey who was a well known pitcher. But unfortunately, he too became injured resulting in the team finishing in a win loss record of 9-14.

However, they had their share of luck when they won the World Series for the second time in 1986. More recently, the period between 1998 and 2004 was the reconstructing time for the New York Mets. Mike Piazza was at his peak time during these years. But sadly, their performance has not been up to that mark when they won the World Series title. They fared poorly in the last season in 2009. One of the key reasons for this is that many key players are suffering from injuries.
