History of the Kansas City Royals

Kansas City Royals has a history that dates back to 1969. The club played its first game on April 8, 1969 where they defeated the Minnesota Twins. Since 1973 the Royals have been playing in Kauffman Stadium.

In 1971, the Kansas City Royals started their first winning season. However, during the years 1976 and 1978, they lost to the New York Yankees on three occasions in the American League Championship encounters. In the year 1979, Kansas City Royals ended the season being in the second place. The Royals performed well in the year 1985 and during the period of 1986 to 1994. Having been down 3-games-to-one against the Toronto Blue Jays in the in the AL Championship Series, Kansas City Royals won the series 4–3.

The period between 1995 and 2001 was popularly known as the decline. Misfortune of the Kansas City Royals continued till the year 2002 when they made a record of losing 100 games. This was for the first time in the history of the franchise. Manager Tony Muser was replaced by Tony Peña. At present, the Kansas City Royals have come out from their slump. The club has ended the 2009 season as the topper of the American League Central. The team has also taken the initiative to improve their stadium in this year.
