Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds are a Major League baseball team which is based in Cincinnati in Ohio. The franchise is a member of the Central Division of the National League. It was founded in the year 1882. The name ‘Reds’ was taken from their initial name that is, ‘Cincinnati Red Stockings’. They joined the National League in the year 1890 and are undoubtedly one of the best teams in MLB.

History of the Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds have been one of the most successful teams of MLB. In 1882, they won the inaugural season. They are also the first professional team of baseball and was founded in the year 1866. Three years later in 1869, they became a fully professional team. During the period of 1869 and 1870, they won a total of 130 games. Some of their best players included George Wright, Harry Wright, Fred Walterman and Asa Brainard. They were defeated only once in the next year by the ‘Brooklyn Atlantics’ at the Capitoline Grounds.

In 11 innings, the Cincinnati Reds lost by 8-7 in the same year. In the year 1938, Ernie Lombardi was nominated to be the Most Valuable Player for the National League. They became the National League Champions in the following year in 1939, but were defeated by the New York Yankees in the World Series Championship the same year.
